For the best view of the Pigeon Forge Parkway, take a spin on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. This ferris wheel towers 200 feet in the air, offering a great view of the town below and the Smokies. Up to 8 riders can fit inside one of the glass gondolas that provides a clear view of the world below and beyond. The wheel is The Island’s centerpiece, but not it’s only attraction. The Island Ropes Course offers two courses for climbers of all ages. After you’re harnessed in, you get the chance to tackle one of the challenging elements the course offers, as well as take a turn on the zip line and participate in a simulated free fall. You can also mine for gemstones, take a spin in the bumper cars, and try not to get lost in the 3,000 square foot Mirror Maze!
Solve a Crime
The Island is also home to Alcatraz East Crime Museum, a 25,000 square foot facility featuring exhibits on the study of criminal intent, profiles, victims, forensics, law enforcement, and much more. You’ll learn all about American crime, crime solving, and the justice system when you tour the 20 exhibit areas and over 100 interactive exhibits the museum has to offer. Check out John Dillinger’s death mask, Al Capone’s rosary, the famous white Bronco from the OJ Simpson chase, and other crime-related artifacts. This fascinating crime museum also has some family-friendly options. Kids can try out the Jail Cell Escape, best each other in the Heist Laser Maze, and try their hand at the Top Detective Challenge.
